Betsy Cory, LPCC
I believe transformation and healing happens when we feel seen, heard, and valued. Connection and validation are essential ingredients to fostering personal growth that is profound and enduring. I use an integrative approach that is both strength-based and systems-focused. This framework fosters a holistic and compassionate understanding of you in the context of your relationships and environments. My approach starts with supporting the relationship you have to yourself first, as we examine the parts of your life that are causing suffering and resistance.
My training as a clinician is comprehensive and eclectic, using somatic, interpersonal, and humanistic psychotherapy to meet my clients where they are, compassionately supporting them toward healing and greater well-being. My therapeutic tools and orientations are heavily influenced by neuroscience. Neuroplasticity wires us for change, allowing for positive growth and healing from difficult life experiences. This is particularly true when treating trauma, an area of focus in my practice. I have been working therapeutically with adults, teens, children and families for over 20 years in private practice and school-based settings. I offer parent coaching and support, as well as professional development in schools around mental health, parenting, and child development.
Across all therapeutic orientations, I strongly believe in the importance of providing a safe and compassionate space for clients to build agency and self-empowerment and I am deeply committed to a therapeutic relationship that is client-focused and evidence-based. I hold a dual degree as a licensed clinical counselor and school counselor and believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship to heal and move toward greater wholeness and well being.
A little about me
I am a mom of two teenagers who keep me immersed in, and up to date on, the ever changing world of adolescents. I have worked in schools for over 20 years supporting the mental health of children and teens from preschool through high school. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, I have had the privilege of living and traveling throughout many parts of the world. This has influenced my practice by broadening my understanding and sensitivity to practices that honor a diverse range of cultural constructs. When Iām not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, dancing, hiking and gardening.
