Outdoor Therapy

“There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature–the assurance that dawn comes after night and spring after winter”

–Rachel Carson

The natural world provides a restorative environment that encourages us to zoom out and shift our perspective. Spending time outdoors has been linked to reduced anxiety, fewer symptoms of depression, and lower stress levels. Nature-assisted therapy serves as a conduit, helping clients connect more deeply with themselves through the natural world. I have found that outdoor therapy is particularly effective with teenagers, who might feel too vulnerable in a more traditional setting. Whether I am meeting a client at a park surrounded by mature trees and greenery or having a 'walk & talk' outdoors, there is a magic in nature that allows clients to feel less vulnerable while also making them more open to their emotions and inner experiences.
